When Kathryn and I met last Fall to discuss her dream wedding, I was thrilled when she said they were up for anything as long as it was simple, fun, and not going to break the bank. I asked if they preferred hiking, adventure or relaxing on a beach. They were new parents so she didn’t hesitate at all, “relaxing for sure!!”…so I suggested the North Shore of Minnesota, Tybee Island, or the West Coast while secretly praying for Hawaii. Then my prayers were answered, and she said “Do you think Hawaii could be a possibility?”…ummm…yes!!!!
So I started researching the Islands and proposed Kauai in April because the Island is smaller, more relaxed and absolutely breathtaking! All great things to make an elopement AMAZING. We booked our flights and airbnb and patiently waited for both of our dreams to come true.
Then…covid hit.
The “c” word that will go down in every 2020 brides curse word books never to be spoken of again.
We decided to wait it out until we knew for certain Kauai wasn’t an option. We considered waiting until late Fall, but Kathryn and Kody were ready to be husband and wife. The next closest thing I could think of to Hawaii, IN MINNESOTA, was the North Shore, so we picked a date 2 weeks out and headed to Superior Shores Resort on June 14th. Plan B turned out to be pretty awesome!! And maybe, just maybe, we will all be heading to Kauai Hawaii this Fall for an epic bridal shoot.
“Our wedding day was nothing less than perfect. Although it wasn’t our initial plan, it turned out to be just what we wanted. Kody and I were excited to elope in Kauai, Hawaii in April, but COVID changed our plans and we were even more excited to be husband and wife. So we decided to make the most out of Minnesota’s beautiful scenery up north and swap the ocean for Lake Superior. The best thing about the new plan was adding a few guests to share our day with us. We were blessed to be surrounded by our little boy and closest family… and some pretty awesome photographers;) It will be a day we will never forget.” ~Kathryn Duncan
