Big Sur, California needs no introduction. It’s one of the most epic places in the United States known for its massive redwood trees, rugged coastal shoreline, crashing waves and lush ferns. Some even call it, “the longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States“. Big Sur is a dream elopement destination for couple’s seeking peace, relaxation, adventure and soul-reviving connections. This Carmel By The Sea Airbnb Elopement gives us a taste of all of that.

ABOUT THE AIRBNB

Sur Grove is a beautiful cabin tucked away in the Santa Lucia mountains. It’s surrounded by giant redwood trees. One in particular appears to be guarding the home. It looks like a giant foot at the base where the tall tree meets the earth as if it’s the cabin’s divine protector, allowing only those who are ready to submerge themselves in true peace and tranquility to enter. In all sincerity, it is a place for just that. There is limited phone service, and wifi that barely exists, making it all the more special. Sur Grove is a place you go when you want to focus on each other and the love that resides within your souls.

TRAVEL ADVICE

Big Sur stretches along the West Coast in-between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Lucia Mountains. Sur Grove is located at the north end of this magical land. The nearest airport is located in Monterey, but it’s quite small. San Jose is 75 miles north and San Francisco just another 25 miles beyond that. This may seem far away, but the drive alone is an adventure you can cherish.

If you fly into San Jose I highly recommend staying a night or two in Santa Cruz. Shark Fin Cove and Mount Hermon Campground are two of my favorite places in the area. Shark Fin Cove is a picturesque sight at sunrise or sunset. You can sip on some wine, play on the beach or take a stroll on the trails. However, I must warn you that some have died in this cove because the water rolls in unexpectedly and quite powerful. Mount Hermon offers zip-lining, hiking, and can serve as a coordinated retreat to reconnect with nature, yourself and/or your family or significant other. This could be a fun pre-wedding retreat or honeymoon to start your marriage off feeling more connected than ever!

ABOUT THIS ELOPEMENT

We started mid-morning with a styled pancake breakfast and a relaxing soak in the clawfoot bathtub. Of course we allowed the couple some private time while we cleaned up the kitchen and prepped for an intimate ceremony in the back courtyard. Kelley with A FLOWER CHIC is incredibly talented. While the space is naturally picturesque, her beautiful florals made it feel all the more special without overpowering the natural elements. The bride and groom chose to hand-write their vows on custom calligraphy paper. This allowed their minds to reflect on the significance of the day and the promises they were about to make. Not to mention, it makes for a nice keepsake. Following the intimate backyard ceremony, the couple changed into slightly more comfortable formal attire suitable for moderate hiking and exploring. We took advantage of the beautiful sunset before parting ways so they could enjoy a romantic evening back at Sur Grove.
