This small destination wedding at Split Rock Lighthouse was 2 of my favorite hours spent so far this summer! Sara and Jake road-tripped from their home in Indiana, along with their immediate family to celebrate their love and commitment. When I spoke with Sara on the phone, I knew as soon as she asked about the possibility of adding a few rolls of film that we were made for each other. Two souls just separated by a few States, but on the same creative path, both in love with fine grain, warm tones and fine art photography!! But enough about mine and Sara’s compatibility…let’s hear her and Jake’s story…
What was your favorite part of your small destination wedding at Split Rock Lighthouse?
My favorite part of the wedding day experience was reading our vows to each other. It was sweet to hear what each of us came up with. I also LOVED having Betty’s Pie together afterwards. It was a nice moment together after the craziness of the day!
Why did you choose to get married at Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Minnesota?
Last year, I found a photo of the Split Rock Lighthouse on Instagram and was awestruck. Jake and I decided that when we came up to Minnesota for vacation this summer, we would visit the lighthouse. When we decided to elope, I thought, “why not try to get married with the lighthouse in the background?!”. The beauty of the North Shore was pristine and perfect for our special day.
Why did you choose a small destination wedding?
Jake and I have both been married before, so a small destination wedding just made more sense for us. We wanted something more intimate and cost-effective. I wanted the simple beauty of nature to be the backdrop for our nuptials. I am so happy we chose to do it this way!
Do you have advice for couples choosing between a micro wedding, elopement or traditional wedding?
My best advice for engaged couples is: it is your day. Choose what is best for you as a couple, and how you prefer to celebrate your love. There is no right or wrong answer, just what makes you excited and what does not.
How was your experience working with Xsperience Photography?
Working with Xsperience Photography was the absolute best choice we made! Trisha was so helpful in personalizing our day: from the ceremony, to the flowers, to our photography experience (including film photography was so very special for me <3). We would not have been able to pull our small destination wedding off without her! Her photography style is truly artistic and I am confident that these photographs will be cherished by our family for generations.
