Christy and Andrew wanted to keep things simple and elope Spring of 2021 on Lake Superior, but they just couldn’t leave out those nearest and dearest to their hearts. While it remained simple and true to their personalities, their elopement turned into a small Destination Wedding as family from both sides joined in on the fun. On a sunny afternoon in April they watched Christy and Andrew exchange vows on the rocky shoreline, enjoyed food catered in by Vanilla Bean Restaurant for dinner, and of course, honored Two Harbor’s famous Betty’s Pies for dessert! At sunset they headed back out to the rocks for a first dance. The cool part about Destination Weddings is that the celebration is more than one day. Everyone rented cabins near each other in the Two Harbors area and were able to enjoy a couple nights exploring northern Minnesota’s beauty.
“The morning of our wedding we made coffee, snuggled in bed, and we spent time going over our vows together before starting our day. Our goal was to remain as true to ourselves and keep it all very simple and natural. Our journey to this day was not the typical route and it came quick as we didn’t want to wait anymore. Covid had cancelled all plans we had but it brought us so much more then we could’ve imagined. We’ve always loved going to new places and the north shore is one of our favorites to visit whenever we can. We wanted to keep it small not only due to covid but also because neither of us are comfortable with being the center of attention with lots of people. One of the most special things we did was our blanket ceremony instead of a unity candle. It is traditionally an indigenous ritual performed to cover the new couple in a blanket and say a prayer to bless them on their new journey together. It’s a special moment for us because it signified that we will always have one another through thick and thin. We’re so happy to finally begin our lives together with the hopes of a fun backyard reception soon when it’s safe for everyone.”
It may have been a whirlwind year, but Andrew and Christy were fortunate enough to buy their first home, rescue the sweetest dog, and officially start the rest of our lives together so I’d say it was a pretty special year!
