Today’s blog features a festive Charleston Wedding hosted at The Historic Rice Mill wedding venue…
I had the privilege of second shooting for the talented wedding photographer, Madison Perry of Charleston, this December. I’m a professional Minnesota wedding photographer with a passion for Destination weddings so it’s nice to fill in the off-season (December-April) with education, inspiration and travel. Second shooting alongside a talented pro like Madison gives me the option of all three at once!
Charleston offers a historic coastal feel with sunshine and laid back southern folk speaking in my favorite accent of all time!! I am not a fan of big cities, but Charleston speaks to my heart. The old buildings and cobblestone streets are filled with so many stories, some shared and some forever untold. The Historic Rice Mill was no exception to this! Not far from the city are relaxing beaches and southern plantations, including the Magnolia Plantation and Boone Halle Plantation. You can see the most incredible trees covered in stringy moss, and feel as though you stepped into a scene from The Notebook… since it’s actually where the movie was primarily filmed.
My favorite part of this wedding day was when I lined up the groomsmen on the road they live on. They were a bit curious why I chose that particular location (because it’s just a road in their eyes), but my eyes saw this beautiful road framed by a line of the iconic southern trees I’ve been dying to photograph. Funny how a traveler sees beauty in your everyday mundane surroundings isn’t it? I always say, “it’s great to hire a local wedding photographer because they know the area, venues, and local vendors. On the other hand, a traveling or Destination Wedding Photographer will arrive to the scene with a fresh set of eyes filled with wonder and excitement that will surely rub off on you and your guests!!”
